Denver Street Missionary Baptist Church Sermons

Any serious reader of the Bible knows that there are passages and themes that strike and prod our foundational teachings of the faith as we read them. For the saints at DSBC, Hebrews 6:4-8 is certainly a passage that causes at least a momentary pause as we ensure that we are interpreting the text in accordance with its original meaning.

Becoming mature in our faith, seeking to understand the deep truths of God, and practicing them regularly, is not a discipline that belongs to the elite saints called to such a task but to all of God's chosen. This sermon explores the author of Hebrew's exhortation for saints to pursue this maturity.

If God does not create anything that is flawed, how can it be true that the Levitical System of sacrifices in the Old Testament is called weak and useless in Hebrews? The simple answer is in the not-so-simple explanation of a "greater hope" afforded for Christians that does not just look forward into the future, but can be experienced in the present as we "draw near" to God.

As a consequence of superficial Bible teaching, some within the Christian community have contended for a stark separation between the themes of the Old and New Testaments. Such a basis for Bible teaching undermines not only the significance of the Old Testament in the church today but also trivializes the meaning of the New Testament. In this evening sermon from Bro. Derrick, we explore the relationship between covenants and worship and the way the Bible teaches harmony between the two Testaments.
